I paint because I have to.
In 1994 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had been a workaholic striver in the high tech industry for 25 years. Grueling 80+ hour weeks and relentless travel had taken their toll. To survive treatments, I vowed to do something for me and it would be fun! It had been so long that I didn’t know what fun meant. But I love water and I love color and I have always loved art. That added up to watercolor classes. Me? I would love to be able to say that I was born with a paintbrush in my hand. NO! But - I reminded myself - these classes were for me. I promised not to strive, not to compete, not to be hard on myself, not to judge. I was going to have fun!
